Night Flight’s 1987 interview with Lou Reed about rap and synths

By on May 20, 2015

To commemorate the true Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal Lou Reed’s 6 decades of releasing bold, challenging and iconic music, we have a clip from Night Flight’s exclusive interview with Reed in 1987. In the interview, Reed describes his appreciation for rap and fascination with the new kinds of sounds that were being produced by the next wave of synthesizers.

Both points are reflected 25 years later in his review of Kanye West’s album Yeezus. Being one of Reed’s last written pieces, this review is a full circle take on what is also so apparent in his NF interview: an ineluctable desire to explore the new and diverse in music no matter the age, or era.
